Dr. Boyce Watkins take on “Birth of a Nation”

Hey everyone, I hope you’re doing well.

This weekend, I went to see the new film, “Birth of a Nation” by director Nate Parker.  The controversy surrounding the film didn’t cause me to have any less respect for the extraordinary story of Nat Turner, and to be truthful, I saw the media circus to be a carefully planned distraction to keep people from seeing one of the most important films in American history.

As I expected, the film was incredibly powerful and extremely well-done.  In fact, it might have been the best film I’ve ever seen in my life.  I was proud of Parker for going out of his way to tell this critically important story, and even more impressed that he did it in such an outstanding way.

One valuable lesson I learned from reflecting on the life of Parker is the power of psychological warfare and how it’s often been used to control black people.  If a person controls your mind, then they don’t have to worry about how strong you are, largely because you’re going to either submit before the battle begins, or you’re going to use your own power to destroy yourself.

This is what’s happened to black people over the last 400 years.

As we move forward and build upon the legacy of great men and women like Nat Turner, I encourage you to strongly consider the importance of controlling black money as one of the pathways to our liberation.  Unlike Nate, we do not necessarily have to endure bloodshed, but the fact is that there are still many battles left to be fought.

I wanted to also make two quick announcements.  First, our Black Financial Leadership Program for children is starting again in early November.  In this program, I personally meet with children ages 7 -14 online every Saturday for five week to teach your child the fundamentals of wealth building, how to start a business, and how to become an investor.  It also comes with free membership in The Black Millionaires of Tomorrow Program.  If you’re already a member of this program, just tell the sales rep and she will take 50% off the cost of tuition.

The kids love the program and we know how to make wealth-building fun.  If you’re interested in speaking to a representative about signing your child up for the program, please make an appointment at this link.

Secondly, we’ve now launched The 48 Hour Business School.  In this special program, I will spend 48 hours in a hotel conference room with a limited number of aspiring business owners. I will then work with you, step-by-step, we guarantee that you will have a functioning business by the time you leave.
The program may require travel and has a higher price point, but there is a year of private follow-up meetings and a one-year all-access pass to The Black Business School included as well.

If you’re interested in speaking to someone about the 48 Hour Business School, please make anappointment at this link.

I implore you to hear what I say when I argue that it should be REQUIRED that every black child learn how to start a business by the age of 12.  Also, by all of us understanding the fundamentals of how things work in a competitive economic system, we will surely find ourselves controlling our own destiny.

Economic empowerment is the next Civil Rights movement.  I’ve taught Finance to college students for the last 23 years.  I want to teach these things to you if you’ll give me that chance.  We will win this battle.

Until we meet again, please be strong, be blessed and be educated.

Sincerely,
Dr Boyce Watkins
